14th January 2011COLYFORD: Colyford to host arts festival
COLYFORD will host its very own arts festival this February, celebrating the history of the village.
Prompted by the publication of a book of poetry, written by London poet Jeremy Clarke, the Colyford Artsfest aims to celebrate the artistic talents of villagers, with exhibitions, readings and concerts taking place during a weekend of events.
Mr Clarke wrote a collection of poems about the area from his experiences whilst visiting Colyford in the 1990s.
His work has now been published in a book entitled “Devon Hymns” and was recently launched in London.
Mr Clarke, who was recently appointed poet in residence at Eton College, will return to Colyford during the arts festival to launch his book in Devon.
The festival will feature the work of local artists and craftspeople as well as history exhibitions, poetry readings and concerts at St Michael’s Chapel of Ease.
The first Colyford Artsfest will take place from Friday, February 25th to Sunday, February 27th.
