25th July 2012WEYMOUTH FOOTBALL: Byerley makes swift return to Weymouth
By Stuart Broom
THE COMPUTER couldn’t have staged it better if it had tried when the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division fixtures were released last week - pairing Weymouth at home to Kettering Town on the opening day of the season.
It means an immediate return to the Bob Lucas Stadium for striker Warren Byerley, only this time in the Poppies’ colours after his summer move away from the Terras.
However controversial former chairman George Rolls will not be in attendance having been banned for five years from all football activities after being found guilty of over 3,000 breaches of FA rules relating to betting.
Rolls sold out to a consortium headed by Nigel Biddlecombe in February to take over a stand-in chairman at the crisis-torn Northamptonshire club, but the ban meant he had to stand down immediately he was found guilty last month.
The Terras follow this match with two away fixtures at Chippenham Town (Aug 21st) and St Neots Town (Aug 25th) before entertaining Bideford Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
They play the return match at Kettering Town three days before Christmas (Dec 22nd) before hosting Bashley on Boxing Day and St Neots Town (Dec 29th) before travelling to Bideford on New Year’s Day.
They complete the campaign with a visit to to Arlesey Town on April 27th.
