CHARD: Volunteers needed to improve community safety

PCSO Richard Oaten, who covers the Chard Crimchard area, is keen to help members of the community who wish to start up a Community Speedwatch Scheme.

These schemes are already up and running in many areas and are proven to help reduce speeding vehicles, adding to the safety of the community.

Anyone who is interested is asked to contact PCSO Oaten at Chard Police Station by telephoning 101. He can then arrange a visit a a Community Speedwatch session, which will give first-hand experience of what they do.

Generally three or more volunteers are needed who will be trained in the use of the equipment. The sessions are run at the convenience of those who are interested.

A recent survey has highlighted speeding vehicles as a high priority and the police will really appreciate any help.
