9th May 2012BEAMINSTER: Dog walk fundraiser
AN annual dog walk aimed at raising vital funds for a shelter for homeless pooches will be held this Sunday.
Now in its 18th year, the event allows people and their pets to put their best paws forward during the sponsored walk around Netherbury in aid of abandoned animals in Greece.
The leisurely trek is once again organised by Beaminster couple, Sue and David Wells, whose friend, Helen Bozas, runs a shelter for homeless dogs and cats on the Greek island of Skiathos.
The charity-run shelter - Skiathos Friends of the Animals - currently has around 100 animals in its care.
Food, veterinary treatment and neutering are provided and a successful re-homing scheme has found new owners throughout the UK and other European countries.
Last year Sue and David took £1,200 across to the shelter, a sum they hope to improve upon when they travel to Skiathos next month.
The walk starts from the Hare and Hounds, Waytown, at 10am.
Newcomers and their dogs are welcome, as are offers of help with cash or veterinary products (ear and eye wipes, flea and worm treatments etc) dog leads and collars.
For further information contact Sue on Beaminster 01308 863585.
